Who we are
Fix My MOT is an online service that helps UK drivers understand MOT advisories and likely parts involved. For privacy queries, deletion requests, or other rights requests, contact hello@fixmymot.uk.
Personal data we collect
- Vehicle registration number.
- Email address.
- MOT advisory wording and optional manual-entry information such as make and model.
- Technical and security data such as IP address, browser details, and server logs.
- Messages you send through the report issue form.
How we use personal data
- To retrieve MOT record information for the check you requested.
- To generate and email your MOT guidance and likely parts shortlist.
- To search for matching product listings and add affiliate links where relevant.
- To monitor reliability, rate-limit abuse, and investigate errors or misuse.
- To reply to support or issue reports that you send us.
Legal bases
- Performance of a requested service: when you submit a MOT check or issue report.
- Legitimate interests: securing, maintaining, and improving the service.
- Consent: where you choose to submit personal data for a check. Fix My MOT does not currently use MOT check submissions as consent for future promotional emails.
Processors and third parties
To operate the service, personal data may be processed by the following categories of supplier:
- DVSA MOT history API: used to retrieve MOT records from official DVSA data.
- Identity and security providers: used to obtain secure access tokens for the DVSA connection.
- Email delivery providers: used to send your requested MOT results and support replies.
- OpenAI: advisory text plus the vehicle context you provide for a request, including make, model, submodel, year, colour, special edition, and any optional notes, may be processed to help suggest likely parts.
- eBay APIs and linked merchants: used to retrieve matching product listing information.
- Google advertising technology and Privacy & messaging: may process device, browser, regional, and consent-related information under Google's own policies when ads or consent messages are served.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers: these providers process logs and network traffic to deliver the website securely.
Affiliate links
Fix My MOT is an eBay affiliate partner. The matched parts links and example product matches surfaced through the service are found on eBay. Fix My MOT may earn a commission if you click or buy through those links. That does not change the price you pay. Affiliate tracking may be handled by the merchant or affiliate network once you leave this website.
Retention
Fix My MOT is designed primarily to process MOT checks and send the result rather than to build a marketing-style customer profile. Where persistent storage is enabled, the service keeps a record of MOT check requests for up to 30 days and support reports for up to 90 days so that requests can be tracked, recovered after a restart, and followed up. Operational email copies, security logs, provider logs, and support correspondence may also be retained for as long as reasonably needed for delivery, troubleshooting, fraud prevention, legal compliance, and record-keeping. You can ask for deletion of your data using the rights below.
International transfers
Some suppliers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, Fix My MOT expects the supplier to use an appropriate UK data transfer mechanism.
Your rights
- Ask for a copy of your personal data.
- Ask for inaccurate data to be corrected.
- Ask for deletion or restriction where applicable.
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office if you believe your data has been handled improperly.
Marketing
Fix My MOT does not currently treat MOT check submissions as permission for later marketing. If optional marketing is added in future, it should use a separate, unticked opt-in.
Advertising consent
Fix My MOT is configured to use Google's certified CMP through AdSense Privacy & messaging for covered traffic. Google determines whether its consent message is shown, based on region and configuration. Where Google's consent or revocation flow applies, visitors can reopen it through the site's Privacy & cookie settings entry point.
Google may use data from ad requests to deliver, limit, measure, and protect advertising under its own policies. You can read more about how Google uses information from sites and apps at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. If personalised ads are available for your account or region, you can manage them through Google Ad Settings / My Ad Center. Visitors can also learn more about wider industry opt-out controls at www.aboutads.info/choices and, for European users, www.youronlinechoices.eu.
